This hot mineral water spa is a great value. As I remember it is ten dollars for one hour or for all day. You can have a lovely experience in the private bathes and in the large common pool. Because of a grandfather clause in the laws regulating spas, the waters in this spa are not subject to daily dosing with life killing chemicals nor are they subject to continual filtering and reuse. Instead, fresh water is continually added throughout each day. In addition the pool is completely drained each night while it is cleaned. Each morning the cleaned pool is refilled with fresh hot mineral water.
This great health giving place is found quite close to the center of the capital city of Nevada, Carson City. It is waiting for your pleasure at 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.
The spa is not perfect. I once found that one of the private bathes seem not to have been well cleaned the night before. I complained and the management immediately offered me a fresh bathe. Still I was disappointed.
Many long time bathers at this wonderful old and well kept spa come early when the water in the pool is fresh and hot from its source deep in the earth. Some bathers call early in the morning to make sure of when to arrive so as not to have to wait for the pool to fill enough to enjoy and to be sure to enjoy the waters at their freshest. I come when i feel the urge. I know that cooled pool water is constantly being drained away and fresh hot water is being added to provide fresh water and to the temperature of the water at its best.
"As I See It Today" could be the title of this new iteration of my main blog. The "It" would then be the following themes with which I intend to deal here: ~ history ~ politics, economics, government ~ family tree ~ people, places, ~ culture, society ~ dialogue and a bit of me

Eighth Post on "Peak Experience"
Finally I spotted a tiny light in one of the cabins and knocked. The man who came to the door said nothing about getting shot creeping around in the dark. He did explain that up the main road a bit was a community called Pine Flat which had a restaurant and a little motel.
I drove through Pine Flat a couple of times without seeing restaurant or motel. I did spot a couple of boys on bikes. They were not easy to spot because they had no lights. My eyesight may also have been a factor. Among us we decided that I had been looking right and the restaurant was on the left(and visa versa).
They pointed behind me and I saw nothing. However, when I turned the Suzuki around I found two persons waiting patiently in the doorway of a closed restaurant just as though I were important and had a reservation.
I never did find a sign for a motel, but behind the bar/restaurant was an older two story four-plex. I was shown to a spacious, clean, and comfortable room. It had a large coffee maker and a small refrigerator and I was given enough coffee to make twenty or more cups. The Lady of the couple made me a substantial snack, which included restarting and reheating the the deep fryer. Then the couple the couple prepared to leave for their days off. I showered and slept well.
In the morning I woke to find no one around, but did find a sign on the closed restaurant that said that they had lobster on the menu.
I drove the short way down to California Hot Springs and had a decent breakfast. The glass of water I had with breakfast reminded me of the wondrous, fine, fresh taste of the Spring water.
After commenting on swimming right after eating I went down to the change room, put on my trunks, and showered. Before going to the pool it is now customary to pay $10 for a day of bathing. Spent joyful, relaxing hours in the large swimming pool and two hot tubs. I was there just long enough to get too much sun on my nose and forehead. My fellow, mostly female, bathers were casual, courteous, and friendly.

I believe the phone numbers were as follows:
661-548-6582 for the spa
611-548 6130 for the motel

Trip: Reno Portion
Interesting guy in the room next to mine here in Reno rebuilds high-end English cars. He just rebuilt and sold a '36 Cord and has started on another. His main thing seems to be refurbishing antique English shoot. He and some friends took the Cord out before he sold it and shot their limit in pheasant. It seems he also has a collection of well refinished hand guns that are very nice. He showed me a beautifully finished, large bore revolver and the nicest automatic I have ever handled. He lived for a number of years around Los Cabos and had learned things about the locals that I did not know and many that I did. Enjoyed his company.
Found a good place to get into hot water in Carson City. Stayed in the outside pool long enough to get my first sunburn in a long time. Great bathing and swimming. Good water. Guess the place has been here since around 1890. The main pool has been grandfathered in so that it does not have to follow all the modern treating laws. Fresh water is coming in all day and the pool is completely refilled each night. Makes for great water quality. The smaller outdoor hot tub is subject to modern treatment and so a bit stale. Should I be lucky enough to return I'll take one of the private rooms. The tubs are handsome and the water is fresh and hot. The rooms do duty as private dressing rooms and an escape from the sun. Women using the facilities great outnumber the men. I suspect that the woman who runs the place enjoys the ladies as much as I. Part of the day women bring children and the private facilities provide an escape from them too.
I enjoyed talking and listening a lot at the spa. Met a young brother and sister there who came from a small lumber town with a good size paper mill. Both have suffered from something similar to ADD. They told me that they weren't the only ones from that tiny town to so suffer.
Talk with an intelligent and interesting Norwegian woman who had traveled a bit. We had both been to some of the same places. She also traveled in cultural immersion ways similar to mine. She loves the States and enjoys Mexico. Here she found the inability or reluctance to carry on a political conversation surprising at first, but figures with things so good here we have little reason to discuss our politics. I remember that early in my travels I was surprised at how easily the people discussed politics intelligently and in depth.
Back in Reno in the bar of a nice Thai restaurant I met a couple who had found each other recently. They have been doing some yachting and were just about to leave for Aruba via Florida. The woman was from Las Vegas and had recently recovered from thyroid cancer. Her doctor said that it is particularly prevalent in LV. Her doctor is from Santa Barbara and has 'rights' at the Sansum Clinic there and also has offices in Las Vegas!
I'm about ready to begin my drive home. I'll take a couple of days to do it.
I do love the hot mineral water and interesting conversation.
