Mondragon

Some "Tweeters" have wondered what I have meant by "putting ourselves to work."
If you are curious about what I mean, you can do some checking online. You can start by 'googling' the following:
~ American Cooperative Movement
~ cooperative banking
~ worker cooperative

In the Basque region of Spain is am outstanding example of what I am talking about. It's Mondragon. Check Mondragon at Wikipedia or elsewhere.

At Mondragon you can find a cooperative university, cooperative banks, and a very profitable worker owned manufacturing cooperative. If you look into Mondragon a bit you can gain a good insight into worker owned corporations. You can learn about corporations that are democratically owned and operated.

I believe that today the democratic federation of Mondragon has about 85,000 members who always have good jobs, share in management, and share profits. Members seem to love the excellent pay, the job security, and being owners of the place they work. That's part of what I mean by putting ourselves to work.

I think that the Mondragon is about the tenth largest corporation in Spain. As I remember it was started by a Catholic priest the year I graduated from high school.

Why did we learn so little about co-ops in high school? Check it out.

We Are Helping

We are helping the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, aren't we? We are letting the rich of Europe have dollars at half price. In doing so we are increasing the amount of available dollars thus reducing the value of each dollar so that the things we buy will cost more.
It's called inflation.

I have always believed that there are many who think that paying our debt in inflated dollars is a great idea.

However, our tax dollars help generate those inflated dollars and the result is that you and I are poorer.

Please help me add to this story or to tell it more clearly.

Still the short of it is that we are collaborating in acts that make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

Demand

Demand is you and I willing to buy and having money to do so. Without 'demand' there is practically no need for economics or finance. It is you and I who provide demand. The problem right now is that we don't have enough money to buy enough. Some of us don't even have jobs.

So we, the people, don't have jobs at which we can earn enough to create enough demand to give healthy impetus to the wheels of economy --- so to speak.

What do we do? You may have noted that we are a nation. There are some rights and abilities that nations have which an individual does not. We, as a nation, can collect taxes, for example. We can allocate the use of those takes in accord with the will of the people. If we say that we want an infrastructure which allows us to be better competitors among the nations of the world, we can have money allocated to building that infrastructure.

Of what might such an infrastructure consist?
~ abundant water appropriate for health industry and individuals,
~ efficient system and mechanism for efficient disposition(including recycling) for efficient industry and healthy citizens,
~ abundant health promoting energy for industry and all,
~ an excellently administered public health system(including research) so that industry has a health work force.

You can probably think of other beneficial infrastructure projects likely to benefit us all. Some people liked Ike because he encouraged the building of our nation highway system.

We can use our national money to employ ourselves in bettering our national infrastructure by doing what is necessary to have abundant good water at a reasonable cost well into the future.

We can spend the money we earn improving our national infrastructure and so create the demand which motivates the economy.

It's not likely to happen unless we make it happen.

Conservative/Liberal

As I remember it:

Conservatives love aristocracy and support oligarchy.

Liberals love the market and support capital.

As Liberals and Conservatives divide the world, where is my place?

I don't see myself in the picture.

Bring me up to date, please.

The Poorest 50% of Us

The poorest 50% of us earn less than the richest 1% of us.
Who bleeds more in foreign wars?
