Demand
Demand is you and I willing to buy and having money to do so. Without 'demand' there is practically no need for economics or finance. It is you and I who provide demand. The problem right now is that we don't have enough money to buy enough. Some of us don't even have jobs.
So we, the people, don't have jobs at which we can earn enough to create enough demand to give healthy impetus to the wheels of economy --- so to speak.
What do we do? You may have noted that we are a nation. There are some rights and abilities that nations have which an individual does not. We, as a nation, can collect taxes, for example. We can allocate the use of those takes in accord with the will of the people. If we say that we want an infrastructure which allows us to be better competitors among the nations of the world, we can have money allocated to building that infrastructure.
Of what might such an infrastructure consist?
~ abundant water appropriate for health industry and individuals,
~ efficient system and mechanism for efficient disposition(including recycling) for efficient industry and healthy citizens,
~ abundant health promoting energy for industry and all,
~ an excellently administered public health system(including research) so that industry has a health work force.
You can probably think of other beneficial infrastructure projects likely to benefit us all. Some people liked Ike because he encouraged the building of our nation highway system.
We can use our national money to employ ourselves in bettering our national infrastructure by doing what is necessary to have abundant good water at a reasonable cost well into the future.
We can spend the money we earn improving our national infrastructure and so create the demand which motivates the economy.
It's not likely to happen unless we make it happen.

Demand Jobs
Economists know about demand. Businessmen know about demand. They know that without demand their market dies. Most of the know that demand begins as a desire in a person.
We know about jobs. We know that what we can afford depends upon our income.
When we can earn we are able to consider what needs to be done; what needs doing; what they need; what they are willing to pay.
Foreigners demand less than a quarter of our output. We are the ones who buy 3/4s of our output. When we can't work, it won't get bought.
Who needs a decent job?
Who will do the work?
Who will get it done?
What does it depend upon?
We know about jobs. We know that what we can afford depends upon our income.

Work
What does it mean to say that demand is the source of jobs.
Here's a hint: a guy see that his driveway is in rough shape and getting worse, he has money in his pocket to hire some one to fix it, he makes the deal, is drive is in much better condition, he pays the man he hired.
How do we get demand in action? Here's a hint: we get money into the hands of the mother who wants vegetables for her family.
If a young man wants a car, get him enough work o earn enough money to buy it, and he will. Then another young man will make the car and buy things for his family.
We don't create a helpful economy by putting people with needs to work not by putting it into rich people's saving accounts.
If 'the market' is letting or causing people to suffer lets pay some people with wants to update our water treatment plants, our bridges, our schools, our health facilities. Paying them to kill foreigners may be a way of getting money into their hands, but it is not a way of bettering our infrastructure.
Am I making any sense?
Let's put them to work.
Let's get to work.

Jobs are a response to demand.

Hohokam
O'odham aren't Irish. I used to call them Pima/Papago.
One of them once convinced me that there were good AA meetings on the res and that they once grew the best dry country beans in the world.
A Reservation of theirs is on the US/Mex boarder.
They may need help in dealing with the illegal drug market and the great demand for those drugs on this side of the boarder.
However, they have been fearful, with good reason, of "help" from the US government.
