Solar Now

Just talked briefly on the phone with a representative of Solar Now, our local solar electric systems contractor.

He tells me that the kind of system I want probably doesn't make good economic sense. If my present costs for electricity were higher or if the likely increase in sale price on the property were higher it might make sense.

When I checked on the cost of a system for a family in a three bedroom, two bath, all electric house about 15 years ago, it was a bit over $35,000. This is for a battery system capable of taking care of all usual electric needs on or off the grid.

The man from Solar Now, at www.solarnowheinz.com , tells me that a good similar system today will probably cost me less than $30,000. Prices are down!

Still if my electric bill were $250 a month or $3000 a year, it would take ten years to get back my investment and my electric costs aren't that high. No solar for me yet.

If I wanted to run a commercial water distilling system and a bank of kilns, I'd check prices again.

Energy from the Tides

Electric energy from the tides and the waves to .......

Seems we could benefit from some of that.

There are people in France benefiting by harvesting the tides.

People in Korea are beginning to harvest energy from the tides in a large scale to their benefit.

Let's begin to benefit from sea energy now.
