The Prince and the Coyote
J. Frank Dobie is a big hearted Texan, an intelligent interpreter of the American South west, and a darn good writer.
In a 1947 work of his called The Voice of the Coyote I've encountered a name I didn't remember, Prince Kropotkin. I find that in about 1890 Prince Peter Kropotkin wrote Mutual Aid. He wrote to counter the greed and heartlessness of interpreters of Darwin's attempt to explain changes in species over space and time. We have come to call those certain interpreters, social Darwinists. Those social Darwinists would understand and appreciate the greed, in the guise of free enterprise, abroad in our world today.
I don't remember my teachers mentioning Kropotkin. You may find the words about him in Wikipedia interesting.
Kropotkin and Dobie both seemed to have great appreciation for inclusive, practical, and generous cooperation; as do I.
Prince Kropotkin's Mutual Aid contains examples of supportive cooperation among animals as does Dobie's The Voice of the Coyote.
I recommend the works of J. Frank Dobie for low tasty reading. The Voice of the Coyote may be a great place to start. But his works such as Coronado's Children, A Texan in England, or Apache Gold nd Yaqui Silver may suit you as well.

Populist Texan
I don't know why they asked me about politics. They weren't interested in politics in general. They weren't exactly interested in how it is done or how to do it. I thought that they might be interested in the history of it, but I was wrong. What they seemed most interesteded in was the ethics and philosophy of it!
I told them to consult a comedian or two. I wasn't kidding, but found that I didn't recall one I could recommend. The only ones I coud remember were dead. I told them to find their own comedians.
They continued to pester so I told them to go get a populist.
They looked puzzled so that I added that a populist was a person interested in fairness. I said that they were particularly interested in getting fair way of taking care of their families. They seemed to find that good a didn't ask me what fair is.
They did ask me where to get a populist. I couldn't remember any living or dead. Then the name Ann Richards came to mind. So I told them, "Texas! Look in Texas." They asked me if Johnson was one and I said that I don't think he quite made the grade.
They started to look bored, but I was getting interested. I was thinking that Texas was probably a better place to find them than Oklahoma, Kansas, or Missouri. I felt a certain inspiration and said that Texan populists were probably the best teachers of populism in the Country. I add that there were also a lot of nut cases in Texas which they seemed to already know. I still couldn't remember the names of any Texan populists. I was sure that Andrew Jackson wasn't a Texan. I did tell them that while they were asking Texans about populists to hold off asking about guns, god, and gays right off.
Still haven't remember a name of a populist Texan, but the name Davis comes vaguely to mind. If the names of any Texan populist comes to your mind, please tell it to me. I'd like to find out what they had to say about ethics and philosophy.
