We, the people in the United States, have often thought of ourselves as more lacking ridged class distinctions then other peoples. We have seen ourselves more as 'the people' and less as the gentry then have others.
As a nation we have thought of ourselves as richer in natural resources, more republican, more democratic, more virtuous, more industrious, freer, more equal, and more individualistic than other people.
